Is UBS ever coming back? Been relistening to the ASOIAF deep dives and would love to hear the end of Tyrions story and everything? Or did Covid put the kibosh on everything?

Well there's an episode (or 2) recorded months ago I haven't found the time to edit, and therein lies the problem. Julia and I just aren't really at places in our lives and careers with a ton of free time anymore. We actually just hung out a few days ago though, and I think we're both pretty into the idea of at least doing another episode to close out the GoT chapter of our lives.
I may try and clean up what we recorded (I've truthfully forgotten the content), or we may actually sit down and just start clean with another episode. So the answer is…yes?
Also, hi :)
Okay looked back at the files and turns out "a few months ago" was January.

Dragon in the Sky
Arya:
There's a dragon in the sky! There's a crazed and terrible rider in the sky!
When it's way up high, burning all below, to your right and your left, the world's aglow–Little more than a glance is enough to show you just how bad wars are
When it's way up high, But you're on your own. Well, surrounded by red shirts you've never known. And the sky is fire, melting all the stone
You're free to view the tragedy anew! It's obvious you really care, Cause I'm not a spare, And suddenly there's…
A big tall terrible dragon right above. A mad and terrible dragonrider choosing fear over love. And she burns the food then she burns the rest; there's a black heart hiding in her fine breast. And you hate her now, as you never did before… Not 'til the sky
Only just when you've found a girl with a doll, And the fire's big, but you're not as small, So you hurry her along the wall, So she doesn't end up toast! And her mother's there, so it's really sad; I mean, their death would be objectively bad. And it's then that you get Just how much Dany's mad, despite the aims she previously had.
She's won! It's done. So you leave the girl and run. You scramble around and look behind, in the city's decline. you suddenly find…
Death, destruction, countless corpses on the floor. Death, destruction, in a close-up never shown here before.
And you think of all of the things you've seen; this is clearly worse thanks to that mad queen. 'Cause war is hell, unlike Frey Pies! Take in the gore… All from the sky.
There's a dragon in the sky! There's a mad and terrible, awesome, scary, emotional rider…in the sky!

are you still here?
Hi friend.
So update: Julia and I, in another head-banging attempt to write more of our Dany/Jon/Tyrion Season 8 retrospective finally came to a true break-through, and realized why it is we've been talking in circles for a year: there is simply not enough internal consistency in the show for us to analyze character arcs. We are going to do a definitive Season 8 retrospective/surrender note that clearly lays this out (and knowing us it'll be 15k words), and what the difficulties were that we had, as well as what the results ultimately were for the audience. But yeah. We wasted a year thinking this was like, a story. It is not.
The question that broke us: "so what *was* Varys's issue with Dany when he began campaigning against her?"

Game of Thrones finale anniversary today! Hooray?
My brain is still having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that it's been a year. A year since Drogon the Philosopher and Bronn Master of Coin. Good god.

I am not shamed to admit I just spent 20 minutes scouring through your podcasts just to hear you or Julia say "She's my queen" in your Jon Snow voice. It was worth it.
I need to get around to recording my Into The Woods spoofs so I can sing in Jon's voice as the Cinderella character. Oh Jonny…

Do you all plan on doing any more book content? Or will it mostly be wrapping up show stuff when the fates allow and then moving on to greener pastures?
For book stuff I might honestly need TWOW to come out–just feeling a bit burned out, though maybe Julia and I can do a "why is it we love Dorne?" podcast to reignite feelings. But who knows too…it often happens that digging into the show makes us want to revisit aspects of the books. I would not say no to a Dany reread at all, and I had felt that way during S8′s run.
Julia and I were chatting last night, and we checked in on if we're feeling up to the retrospective yet. The answer was that we're both definitely getting there, but let's not put pressure on it. Caroline being the genius that she is has a piece coming out on Dany's costume design, and has a lot of intelligent things to say about it (though initially got stuck on "what else can I say besides this is bad writing??" just like we did). So eventually this machine will feed itself, I promise. It's just a question of what inputs come along I think.

How are you guys going with answering the question of why it was *this* season that finally turned the tides of critical praise?
To be completely honest, it's just not going at the moment. Neither Julia nor I have the emotional energy for it with everything going on. I don't think it will be hard for us to motivate in time, but for right now we're trying to stop putting pressure on ourselves, because we were getting into a stress-cycle about it. I'm sorry–I really wish this was just a funny, stupid season like 7. I mean, it is in a lot of ways, but then it's also…everything else.

Still confused. Why is letting your abusive brother die, killing violent slavers and Khals and executing enemy combatants after they've refused peaceful surrender a precursor to genocidal madness but being an assassin and then murdering an entire House including boys who had nothing to do with your family's murder, burning enemy soldiers and murdering your father or sending your men to die in multiple failed battles due to your shit planning and executing a manipulated, traumatised child not?
Marketing!
I think my favorite aspect of that rather glaring issue is that they pointed specifically to how cold Dany was with the "fire cannot kill a dragon" line, because Arya has never, ever talked about death and suffering in a dispassionate way or anything. These were the two men who wrote a plot about Arya threatening to cut of Sansa's face and wear it and then told us "the truth is somewhere in the middle."
